Sligo, North West of Ireland (Village of Ballintogher)

We are a family with 3 children (3 boys: 16, 13, 10 years old). We live in a bright modern house, on a one acre site, 8Km from Sligo Town (pop. 20 000). We are both teachers. High speed rural fibre broadband in house. The nearest airport is Ireland West Knock Airport, which is 45 minutes away. This is quite a small airport and serves a fairly limited number of destinations. The main airports are Dublin, Shannon and Belfast, which are all between 2.5 and 3 hours drive from Sligo.

Our house is large, spacious and comfortable, with 4 available bedrooms upstairs (3 king, one double). Upstairs there is a study with comfortable couch, with a view out to the mountains at the back of the house, great for reading & newspaper reading!. Downstairs, we have a gym room, with treadmill, cross trainer & bike. The living room opens on a nice garden with a terrace and kid games. We live in a quiet, rural location ¾ mile from small local village. Exceptional view from windows of living area of 'The Sleeping Giant' & Killery Mountains. Gym, Large sun room, 4 large bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, Wooden floors & porcelain tiles throughout. This is a great holiday base for families, holiday makers, golfers and anglers.

Sligo is a beautiful, scenic county to live in and to visit. Our house overlooks the Killery Mountains and the Sleeping Giant mountain, set on one acre 8 miles from Sligo town. We're 25 mins drive from both Strandhill & Rosses Point Beaches, 5 mins drive to Slish wood & Rooney Rock, 3 miles from Innisfree. It's a great base for relaxing, exploring the region, sightseeing, hiking, surfing. There's so much to do in the area depending on your own interests.

In Sligo, there are some fantastic beaches which are great for walking, swimming and surfing. There's also good sailing, horse trekking and golf.

Sligo town, lively town and a centre of the arts and traditional Irish music. The poet W.B.Yeats came from here and many of his poems mention local places. Sligo has a very good theatre and music scene and you can catch traditional music sessions in typical Irish pubs. In the summer there are many traditional music and dancing festivals in Sligo and the neighbouring counties of Leitrim, Donegal and Mayo.

WHAT SLIGO HAS TO OFFER
www.sligotourism.ie and www.kidsinsligo.ie

You can Surf on some of the best waves Ireland has to offer or you could try something more adventurous like Shark Fishing off Mullaghmore. Maybe a river cruise on Lough Gill sounds more appealing or simply relax in the world famous Voya Seaweed baths in Strandhill. Sligo is steeped in heritage and culture. The landscape is peppered with monuments, stretching back as far as 5,000 years.

WB Yeats once said that Sligo was the "Land of Heart's Desire."

The beauty, archaeology and folklore that filled his early poems are still (as) evident today, and Sligo remains the place where history and legend are helplessly intertwined.

With a huge range of activities including golf, surfing and horseracing at your fingertips, Sligo is an ideal destination for Business, Fun and Leisure.

The beach and nearby estuary provide perfect conditions for all water sports including surfing, kite-surfing and sailing. The mountains of Benbulben and Knocknarea are a spectacular backdrop for hiking enthusiasts and the immediate area also offers a variety of easy but awe-inspiring coastal cliff top and peninsula hill walkways and mountain bike tracks.

Sligo's super-friendly bustling streets are peppered with small boutiques, cafes and bars, as well as a myriad of craftshops offering handmade crafts, pottery and jewellery.

The new Quayside Shopping Centre boasts a large number of high-street shops including Warehouse, TKMAXX and Oasis. Next door, a 12-Screen Multiplex Cinema will distract even the most discerning of visitors.
