Two-floor flat with spacious terrace in the Ljubljana city centre.
"Slovenia is as picture-perfect as Switzerland or other Alpine areas to the north, but much smaller and easier on the wallet. If you’re keen on trekking, skiing, rafting or simply taking in the scenery of one of Europe’s most attractive countries then Slovenia will not disappoint." - Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2013.
We live in the center of Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. It is a good central location to discover and explore the rich diversity of landscapes and attractions of the country. It's also a good base for day trips to the seaside (Italian and Croatian Adriatic coast), to the lakes, valleys and mountains, to towns (Trieste, Venice, Zagreb ...). Slovenia is small so by car you can reach any destination in a short time.
Our home is located on the second and third floor of a house built in the 1930-ies. On the top floor we have a large terrace (80 m2), which is overlooking a small park. On the second floor we have a kitchen/living room/master bedroom (bed size: 140x200 cm). There are two children rooms on the same floor, a bathroom and a hall/library/staircase. On the third floor we have an extra living room (16,5 m2) leading to the terrace. The couch there has a good mattress, so the 5th person could sleep there. The terrace is spacious and overlooking a small park.
We moved to this renovated flat in 2019. Here are some comments by families that exchanged with us in our previous home (near Ljubljana):
"Thanks for letting us stay in your lovely house these two weeks. This exchange --our seventh-- has been one of the best we have made. During our stay we have spent lots of time around the Bled area. We were swimming in Lake Bled, walked on top of Vogel, seen waterfalls both at Lake Bohinj and at the Vintgar Gorge. We also did some exciting rafting in Bovec along the Soca river. Turning South we visited the fantastic Skocjanske caves, the Lipica horses, the beautiful Piran. We visited Italy: Trieste, where we bought some good Parmesan cheese, and Venice where we did some mandatory sightseeing. Our favorite however was Lake Bohinj and Bled where the Bovec rafting was the icing on the cake. Slovenia has been a pleasant surprise to us and we wish you all the best in your future exchanges."
"We have felt at home here and we have had a great, warm, relaxing stay. /.../ Slovenia is a very beautiful country and everybody has been so friendly and helpful - we have felt very welcome here."
"We spent such an amazing time here in Slovenia! We saw so many beautiful things, places. Thanks for all your 'tips for trips'. Ten days is not enough to explore Slovenia. We will tell to all our friends that it is really worth to visit Slovenia!"
"We are leaving your house after a very nice holiday in Slovenia. We used a lot of your visit tips /.../.Thanks for your hospitality and the warmth of your house! Always welcome at our house."
"Thank you for letting us use your beautiful home and giving us lots of good advice about your lovely country. /.../ We enjoyed the beautiful landscapes, old architecture and nice atmosphere here is Slovenia! /.../ If you need recommendations, please give our details to new partners."

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia (population: 300.000). It is a good central location to explore most of Slovenia. And one can easily make day-trips to the Italian and Croatian seaside, to Trieste (88km - 1 hour drive) and Venice (237 km), Zagreb (144 km),...
Or if you are interested we will gladly send you the first "tips for trips" list we made for our intervac guests.
Our home is situated in the heart of the city center, but away from the busier tourist areas. You can explore the entire city center on foot. Since we live in the city center, everything is nearby: cultural and tourist spots, restaurants, museums, cafés, shops, theaters, cinemas, open air markets, etc. But Ljubljana is also a peaceful, green city (European Green Capital 2016!): besides the largest Tivoli park (walking distance from our home), there are lots of smaller green areas and parks nearby. Forests and hills are within a five to ten minute drive.

ON SLOVENIA:
In 2013, Slovenia has been ranked among the top destinations by several distinguished media. Fodor's Go List 2013 ranked Slovenia among the 25 destinations that have to be visited in 2013, while Lonely Planet ranked it among the Best in Travel 2013, Reuters among the Top 10 destinations for skiers and non-skiers. Read what they've said about Slovenia:
"An undiscovered sliver of Europe with modern style and classic charm," by Fodor's in Fodor's Go List 2013: Slovenia among the 25 places to go in 2013.
"Slovenia is as picture-perfect as Switzerland or other Alpine areas to the north, but much smaller and easier on the wallet," by Lonely Planet in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2013 (category Best value destinations).
"The tiny European country of Slovenia is a power house for those who love the outdoors" by Switchback Travel in Top 10 Adventure Destinations for 2013.
"No matter how many times you see the image of Lake Bled (Slovenia) in pictures, once you see it in reality, its beauty leaves you breathless," by Ayako Ito in the 2013 Japanese issue of the Austrian Airlines in-flight magazine.
"Slovenia - Best Active Holiday Destination of the year 2013," by Finnish Travel Magazine Mondo in Mondo's Best Travel Destinations 2013.
"Many of us have seen photographs of an island with a church in the middle of a pristine Alpine lake, but few of us are very familiar with Slovenia. While initial assumptions might suggest Austria or Germany, this image is in fact Bled in the Gorenjska region of Northern Slovenia. Bordering Austria and Italy, Northern Slovenia and the Julian Alps are a growing skiing destination, but also a great destination for those who simply appreciate unspoiled nature," by Reuters in Top 10 destinations for skiers and non-skiers.
