Spacious, bright and quiet apartment with patio, close to Vienna Woods yet within easy reach of city centre
Vienna has been voted one of the most liveable cities in the world - justifiably so. We particularly appreciate the location of our apartment, offering the best of both worlds: Set within a quiet and green neigbourhood, it is in walking distance to the "Wienerwald" (Vienna Woods) with its many hiking routes and scenic views. At the same time, Vienna city centre is only a 20 minutes' tram ride away.
Our spacious, bright and quiet apartment is located in the 18th district, in a very green neigbourhood. The building from 1931 was desigend by Ferdinand Glaser, the same architect who designed the Central Bank of the Republic of Austria in the early 1920s, in similar style and with references to Jugendstil.
The apartment is on the 2nd (= top) floor. Please note, currently there is no elevator.
Our apartment comprises
- entrance hall
- a spacious living/dining room with open kitchen and direct access to
- a sunny patio, facing south-east;
- 3 bedrooms
-- 1 master bedroom (double bed 180x200 cm) with en-suite bathroom,
-- children's bedroom 1 (sofa bed 140x200 cm), and
-- children's bedroom 2 (loft bed 90x200 cm with additional mattress beneath);
- 2 bathrooms
-- 1 bathroom (en-suite to the master bedroom) with bath, double-basins and toilet,
-- 1 bathroom with shower and single wash basin, next to chilodren's bedrooms,
-- 1 extra toilet.
There is also a shared garden, offering a safe area for kids to play with swings, slide and sandpit. Our neighbours are friendly and helpful.
Vienna has an excellent transportation system, easy to navigate and safe. Vienna is also well connected by train (from and to all directions) and an international airport. It is easy to reach other major Austrian and international cities such as
Linz (1,25 hours by train)
Salzburg (2,5 hours),
Graz (2,5 hours),
Innsbruck (4 hours by highspeed Railjet),
Bratislava (1 hour by train or speed boat),
Budapest (2,5 hours by train),
Prague (4 hours), or
Venice (Italy).
Places you have to visit :) (all reachable easily by public transport)
-"Wachau" with its medieval towns, vine-yards and great views of the Danube (1 hour by train)
-Vienna Alps for great scenery and walking (Schneeberg, Semmering, Rax, Hohe Wand etc.), (about 1 to 1,5 hours)
-"Neusiedlersee" (big lake in Burgenland, famous for sailing, cycling and winery) (1 hour to Neusiedl/See)
- "Salzkammergut" lake district (3 hours)
Of course there are many more options, depending on your preferences- do not hesitate to ask for advice!

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Our apartment is located in the18th district of Vienna, more precisely, in Pötzleinsdorf, in the green and hilly outskirts of north-western Vienna. Reaching into Vienna Woods. Pötzleinsdorf was once a village and still breathes the atmonsphere.
All basic services are available within 3 to 5 minutes' walking distance (2 supermarkets, bakery, pharmacy, ATM), as well as some cafés, "Heurigen" and restaurants. "Kutschkermarkt" is a 10 minutes' tram ride away, offering an open market, nice cafes and restaurants and a selection of shops along Währinger Straße.
At the same time, Vienna city centre ("Schottentor") is only a 20 minutes' tram ride away (3 minutes' walk from our home to the tram stop). From "Schottentor", enjoy a stroll across the Inner City (1st district) or along the "Ringstraße" with its many historic buildings and musums. It is easy to walk around and see most of historic Vienna on foot. "Schottentor" also connects to the underground and numerous tram and bus lines. It is also possible to hire bikes all across the city. The underground station "Währinger Straße/Volksoper" is a 12 minutes' tram ride from our home.
There are beautiful parks in walking distance, such as "Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark" or "Türkenschanzpark" (10 minutes' walk each). For those keen on hiking, it is easily possible to start hikes across the Vienna Woods right from our door step, including also some very nice hilltops. For instance, you can take a brisk and rewarding walk up to "Schafberg" (Währing's highest peak) offering magnificent views across Vienna (about 20 to 30 mins depending on exact route and fitness level).

We are an active family, interested in a broad range of activities such as sports, especially in the outdoors (hiking, cycling, skiing ...), culture (concerts, arts, dancing ...), and, of course, travelling (we appreciate both nature and cities and we love mountains and the sea-side). We are also happy spending time at home with nice and freshly-prepared dinners together, good books and music.
We are a patchwork family and offer two apartments in Vienna for exchange, one large family apartment in the 18th district and one small cityapartment close to Schönbrunn Palace.
Patchwork also means that we travel in different constellations:. Sometimes it's just the adults travelling, sometimes all of us, and sometimes one adult with one or two kids.
We are experienced "Intervacers" and really love this way of travelling, communicating and getting to know new places and people :-D
