nice warm house in suburban Brugge

We live in Sint Andries, only 5 Km from the centre of the well-known city of BRUGES. (Europe's 2002 Cultural Capital) a lively city, but a city for people.

Our neighbourhood is very nice, with peaceful surroundings. The maximum speed in our quarter is 30 km/hr. We have friendly and welcoming neighbours. In addition it is very child-friendly: our street is a save and quiet cul-de-sac, of only 4 houses. The only traffic is very local.
It is real nice to wake up in the morning while listening to the singing birds (35 years ago, we used to live on a very busy road).
Different shops (department stores as well as neighbourhood-shops, butchers, bakeries…) and lovely forests (which were highly appreciated by most of our home exchange friends) are very nearby. You only need to walk 5 minutes to our Olympic swimming pool, the football stadium (FC Bruges), and the bowling hall. Tennis and horse riding are also nearby.
A few km from here we have a cinema-complex.
Bus stops are just within a few minutes walking distance. Nearby, we have a very user-friendly and cheap park-and-ride bus system.

One of our previous home exchangers described it as:"...feeling that we are out in the country while enjoying all the conveniences of modern urban life...This is the 4th time we have exchanged houses, but the first time we are leaving 'too early', wishing we could extend the exchange for another two weeks, staying in your sweet home has been a very relaxing and pleasant experience"

Neighborhood

About the neighborhood

One of our previous home exchange partners initially wondered what they could do in Bruges for more than a couple of days. After their stay, they said that even two weeks wasn’t enough to experience everything!
Plus, we have Paris, Amsterdam, the Ardennes, Germany, and more all within a few hours' drive.

The prestigious and authoritative American luxury travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler (2022) made its annual lists of favourite destinations, with Bruges coming in at number 8 in the world ranking of smaller cities, moreover as the only Belgian city in the list.
"Impeccably well-preserved city centre with cobblestones and canals" and chosen by travellers looking for quiet, small and understated destinations where comfort comes first. "The right kind of less is more," concluded the editors of Condé Nast.

Bruges was in September 2019 elected as "The 3rd friendliest city in the world 2019" according to a poll by travel website Big 7 Travel. "Being in Bruges is like being in a fairy tale," exclaimed a reader last year, and the reviews this year reiterate the city's charms: "boat rides on the canal," the "women making lace," "a friendly carriage master telling stories of the history and locals." "Friendly shopkeepers" and no dearth of "cafés serving warm waffles with chocolate sauce" equaled "exactly what we imagined an old European city should be like."

We have been home exchanging since 1996, completing over 30 exchanges. Additionally, we have done 23 house sittings with Homelink, Intervac and Trusted Housesitters.
We are interested in exchanging homes (or do some house sitting) with you for 3 weeks in the summer of 2025. This summer we enjoyied a fantastic home exchange in a wonderful home in Somerset.
We know Belgium may not be on your wish list, but our small country has a lot to offer!

Please allow us to tell you a little about ourselves:
I, Michel (66), am a retired head chef from a seaside hotel for the army. I enjoy cooking, reading, listening to music (I am a huge fan of Deep Purple and rock blues), watching TV, gardening, traveling, and photography. For the past ten years, I work as a volunteer photographer for the city of Bruges and contribute to a concert webzine. And now I am doing a series of photos (mostly old buildings and churches with lots of interesting info) on my page on Facebook of the holiday we had this year in Somerset. (I also share them in about 15 english groups)

Gina (60) works as a cleaning lady in a children's ward at a hospital but will retire by November. She enjoys traveling, reading tear-jerking books, home design magazines, and managing the household.
We have been a happy couple since 1977 and married since 1982. We have two children, Lynn (39) and Maaike (34). Since July 1st 2017 we are very proud grandparents to Emil, a premature baby born at 28 weeks and 990 grams, who is doing really great now!

We have a very well-behaved dachshund, Pippa (now 12 ½ years young), who will be joining us on our holidays. She is loved by all.

my sister joins us on our holiday, this year she joined us for the first time and was very happy and pleased and delighted with the views in the UK (she only went to London before)

We have been home exchanging since 1996, completing over 35 exchanges. We have maintained good friendships for over 27 years with the family from our first Danish home swap and still visit each other occasionally. We also have lovely get-togethers with Dutch couples.

We are big fans of Escape to the Country, since 2007. After a while, I suggested to them to display a map when showing the villages, and they replied that it was a good idea. Since then, they have implemented it :-) coincindence?

In 2009, our daughters wanted to stay at home, so we switched our holiday plans to house sitting, which we have done 23 times.
We love home exchanging and do our utmost to make people feel at home here, welcoming you with a self-prepared Flemish stew (which everyone loves). We also take the best possible care of your home.
We provide guidebooks, maps, heaps of tourist leaflets, a "Lange Molenstraat Survival Guide," and much more to help our guests make the most of their stay in Bruges.
