Spacious, tranquil four bedroom family home in historic town 30 minutes from London or Cambridge
Our house is a spacious four bedroom family home in a quiet enclave of Hitchin, a charming market town which is a 30 minute train ride from central London, and 30 minutes from Cambridge in the other direction.
From our house, you can take a 10 minute walk into Hitchin town centre which offers plenty of great restaurants, boutiques, traditional pubs and bars, parks and sports facilities. We're also close to several large supermarkets for food shopping. The surrounding Hertfordshire countryside is just on our doorstep, with its gently rolling hills and stately homes; great for refreshing walks and days out. Cambridge is also 30 minutes away by train if you fancy visiting one of the world's oldest universities and having a punt on the river.
Our home is detached with two floors. It has a large kitchen-dining area, a separate sitting room, study, utility room and toilet downstairs; and four bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs, as well as a newly renovated ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom (with bath and great shower). Three of the bedrooms have double beds, and the fourth bedroom has a single bed and a cot.
We have a quiet, private garden at the back with children's play equipment and a table and chairs for al fresco eating in the summer. It's totally enclosed so very safe for children to play in. The neighbourhood is peaceful and quiet.
We have plenty of baby / toddler equipment - high chairs, toys, games, etc. We also have stair gates at the top and bottom of our stairs, which means you can relax if you have small children like us!
We have fast wifi and all the usual TV streaming services.

About the neighborhood
Hitchin is an attractive market town which offers boutique shops, cafés, restaurants, traditional British pubs, parks and sports facilities. There are plenty of local villages with quaint pubs too. It's very well located, with a fast train service to central London (London King's Cross is just 30 mins on the quickest trains) and to Cambridge (31 mins). We live in a small cul-de-sac of houses which is quiet and peaceful. We're a 10 minute walk into town, or to the train station.
We're also well served by the London airports, with London Luton a 20 minute drive away, Heathrow around an hour's drive, and London Stansted about 50 minutes' drive.

Sehr nette Tauschfamilie, wir haben uns sehr willkommen gefühlt und hatten gute Kommunikation miteinander. Das Haustauschhaus war tiptop!
Really enjoyed this swap. Severin was good at communicating in the run-up to the holiday, and had left us excellent instructions and tonnes of great local tips and information in their flat. The flat was spacious, clean and tidy and had the baby equipment we needed for our younger daughter. What really made this trip stand our for us was the kindness of Severin and family - they allowed us to use their great bikes (including children's trailer which our girls loved!), left a foldable buggy for us to use, and helped us enormously when our car tyre got a puncture. She was also super kind in sending back a few bits and pieces that we managed to leave behind. We loved the area and there was lots to do. We especially enjoyed cycling to the various fantastic outdoor pools in the area, visiting Strasbourg and the Black Forest.

Hello! We're the Howard family - Kirstin, Andrew and our two daughters aged four and two. We enjoy being active - walking, cycling, running, skiing - cultural activities, eating and drinking, and of course exploring the world. Kirstin has been "Intervac'ing" with her family since she was seven (a long time ago!), and has many fond memories of holidays all over the globe. We did our first exchange as a couple in 2017 and have since done two great family swaps to Munich (2019) and Karlsruhe (2022).
We're interested in:
- A ~2 week swap in summer 2023. Flexible on location but would love a pool and some sun
- Any other offers for shorter breaks throughout the year, including in the UK and Ireland
We sometimes bring a couple of grandparents with us too.
We would also consider a longer-term exchange as we love adventures! Please do get in touch if this could be interesting.
